TEG B1 nó Hibernia?

Céard í an difríocht idir na hagallaimh seo?An bhfuil ceann amháin níos deacra ná ceann eile? Cén ceann a ullmhaíonn an dalta don mháistreacht féin? Níl freagra simplí ar na ceisteanna seo.

What is the difference between these interviews? Is one more difficult than the other? Which one prepares the student for the master’s itself? There is no simple answer to these questions.

Ar dtús, is í an difríocht atá idir an dá agallamh seo ná an leagan amach. Tá struchtúr daingean i gceist leis an scrúdú TEG B1- Is iad an comhrá, an ról-imirt agus an tsraith pictiúr. Ar a laghad, tá leagan amach na scrúdaithe ar eolas agat sula dtéann tú isteach agus páipéir samplacha ar fáil go bhféadfá tabhairt futhu i d’am saor. Tá béim ar ceisteanna gearra a fhreagairt leis an mbriathar ceart. Foghlaimíonn tú scil riachtanach-conas ceisteanna a chur agus a fhreagairt. Tá ciall ag baint leis sin mar ullmhaíonn sé an dalta do ghnáthchomhrá sa Ghaeilge, rud nach bhfuil ann san agallamh Hibernia mar go bhfreagraíonn tú na ceisteanna a chuirtear ort agus sin an méid.

Firstly, the difference between these two interviews lies in their format. The TEG B1 exam has a fixed structure — it consists of a conversation, a role-play, and a series of pictures. At least you know the format of the exam before you go in, and sample papers are available that you can work on in your free time. There is an emphasis on answering short questions using the correct verb. You learn an important skill — how to ask and answer questions. This makes sense, as it prepares the student for everyday conversation in Irish, something that is not really present in the Hibernia interview, since you simply answer the questions you are asked and that is it.

Maidir leis an scrúdú Hibernia, tá ullmhúchán ag teastáil cinnte. Caithfidh tú díriú ar thopaicí níos dúshlánaí, cuir i gcás, an mhúinteoireacht, an cúrsa Hibernia, cúrsaí oideachais agus tréithe agus scileanna an mhúinteora. D’fhéadfá a rá go mbeifeá in ann na topaicí seo a fhoghlaim ach ag deireadh an lae, is dócha go bhfuil comhrá nádúrtha na Gaeilge ag teastáil uathu.

As for the Hibernia interview, preparation is definitely required. You have to focus on more challenging topics, for example teaching, the Hibernia course, education, and the qualities and skills of a teacher. You could say that you might be able to learn these topics, but at the end of the day, it is likely that they are looking for natural conversation in Irish.

I mo thuairim féin agus níl ann ach tuairim, faigheann tú i bhfad níos mó deiseanna an teanga a úsáid go feidhmiúil leis an scrúdú TEGB1 agus ceapaim gur fiú go mór é. Tá tú in ann ceisteanna simplí a chur agus a fhreagairt, gnáthchomhrá a bheith agat, stór focail atá bunúsach a fhoghlaim agus scéal simplí a insint. An gcabhraíonn an t-agallamh Hibernia leat le do scileanna teanga a chur chun cinn? Níl mé cinnte.

In my own opinion — and it is only an opinion — you get far more opportunities to use the language in a functional way with the TEG B1 exam, and I think it is very worthwhile. You are able to ask and answer simple questions, have everyday conversations, learn a basic vocabulary, and tell a simple story. Does the Hibernia interview help you to develop your language skills? Unfortunately, I’m not sure.
